I submitted a proposal to present at the Pacific Circle Consortium 2018 Conference entitled "The White Way May Not Always Be The Right Way". In it, I proffer that the disproportionality of students of color with regard to school disciplinary action might be based on viewing the antecedents to actionable student behaviors through the lens of white culture. My proposal was accepted and I will be presenting in July.

My research interests include the lack of administrators of color, their barriers to recruitment and retention, and how they navigate difficult, racialized career issues.

Racial Equity Self-Assessment Pre and Post Scores
|
Reflection: I conducted a pre- and post- course assessment of students taking EDLD 641-83 Critical Race Theory in Education. The purpose of this assessment was to somehow quantify students' perceptions of their own thought processes and behaviors around racial equity. Based on responses, students were able to add up their final scores and report them anonymously. The overwhelming majority of students' scores increased their racial equity awareness score by the end of the course. This pre-assessment was also given to students in EDLD 671 - Introduction to School Administration. They will take the post-assessment at the conclusion of their licensure coursework.
