Criterion 3:
Evidence of continuing preparation and study

Objective 1:  Attend local, state, regional, or national conference related to educational leadership.
Pacific Circle Consortium Convention, July 18-22, Minneapolis, MN
The 42nd annual international conference was held in the Twin Cities.  It was an amazing opportunity to learn from other educational leaders from across the globe and to also realize that we are facing similar struggles and triumphs in educating our people.  I was fascinated to know that there are "achievement gaps" between the racial minority and majority students of Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Guam. The reasons and histories mirror our own here in the United States.

Courageous Conversations about Race Summit - October 22 - 24, 2018. Philadelphia, PA
I attended several breakout sessions and workshops that reflected research-based practices on infusing racial dialogue into work and school spaces.  Session topics included:
  • How people of color can sometimes operate in oppressive behaviors
  • Strategic action around recruiting and retaining leaders of color
  • Building our racial stamina - changing the rules of engagement
  • Coaching principals and leadership for racial equity

University Council of Educational Administrator Convention Houston, TX
This convention 's audience is primarily universities that prepare principals and superintendents. I attended several sessions that reflected the present work being done:
  • Reconsidering discipline practices in ways that change leaders' approaches
  • The sum of our parts:  program-level design
  • Time well spent?:  How leaders focus their day
  • The Red Owl Collaborative:  Strategizing leadership pathways through sisterhood, service, and social justice at HBCUs

Objective 2:  Continue to read books and articles about racial equity and best practices for teaching adult learners.
I read many books this year.  These titles displayed below are just a few of the resources that I read and made use of in my teaching, consulting, and personal life.  In addition, there were several articles that I read and used to shape my practice and even assigned to students.

Mental Health Training
I participated in an all-day mental health training where we were taken through several processes and scenarios to be able to recognize the signs of mental distress ranging from depression to substance abuse disorders, to possible self injury and suicide.  The training gave me the tools to connect individuals with appropriate support.  As a result, I earned CEUs toward my eventual administrative license renewal.

Objective 3:  Attend Non-Tenured Faculty Meetings via telepresence.
Non-Tenured Faculty Meetings
I attended and participated in all four of our scheduled Non-Tenured Faculty meetings where I was able to continue to build relationships with the Dean and other faculty, learn about other departments and programs, and see how the thread of equity is displayed in each of them.
