Criterion 3

Evidence of continuing preparation and study
Objective 1. Attend local, state, regional or national conference related to educational leadership.

Reflection:  I attended the 5th Annual Leading Courageously for Racial Equity Conference.  Even though I was leading the effort for that day's entire production, I was able to hear the keynote presentation, participate in an affinity group for women of color, and attend two breakout sessions.  I learned much about the nuanced way that our Native American and Latinx communities were historically, and sadly, presently mistreated in the K-12 school experience.  Because of this new knowledge, I will be even more vigilant about preparing our future administrators to consider the perspectives of these communities.

Objective 2. Research and study additional methods for online coursework for masters and specialist courses.

Reflection:  I researched and studied several pieces of work published on the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning website.  I gleaned a lot of valuable information through the Teaching with Technology section and used Resources for Online Instructors to supplement what I am currently doing in my Masters and Specialist courses. I found the following resources to be especially helpful for designing my courses:  10 Principles of Effective Online Instruction; Best Practices for Online Course Management; and a Sample Rubric for Threaded Discussion Participation.

Objective 3. Gain further knowledge of how the student outcomes drive competencies in preparation for the Minnesota Board of School Administrators (BOSA) review.

As I joined the faculty in August, I was tasked with editing the information entries of our BOSA review that was scheduled for November.  This editing process gave me the opportunity to learn quite a bit about how our programs are aligned to the competencies.

Objective 4.  Prepare for and participate in College of Education Common Reading Book Studies

Reflection:  I facilitated the book discussion on Critical Race Theory.  In that discussion, faculty and I actively looked for places in our work where the tenets of Critical Race Theory presented themselves and pondered how best to effectively address issues of inequity in our thought processes and practices.   I was also participated in three other book groups.  I learned quite a bit from each of these book discussions.  Not only did I gain insight from the readings, but that learning was made more profound by wrestling with issues and perspectives that emerged from the discussions.

Objective 5.  Attend Non-Tenured Faculty Meetings via Telepresence.

Reflection:  I attended all Non-Tenured Faculty meetings and participated in Grounding activities by following the established norms and by using the Compass to locate myself and others during our discussions.  I also participated in the sharing of information about my practice and several aspects of my PDR with colleagues.

Reflection:  Career Trajectory Meetings hosted by Dr. Queen Booker
Several meetings were scheduled this spring to introduce people to those in key university leadership positions to learn more about their experiences and careers.  I attended this one via telepresence.
March 22: VP Jones 12:00-1:30 MH215
Dr. Jones is the MSU Mankato VP Student Affairs. Dr. Jones will share his career path that led him to becoming the VP student affairs. He will discuss the skills, experience, knowledge, etc to be successful if you are interested in a student affairs career at a 4 year institution.
