2. Provide and increased level on in-depth and personalized feedback and suggestions resulting in improved quality of student work in terms of depth of thinking, research, writing, and application.
In many of my courses, I have adopted a group research presentation that includes educational and interactive components, demonstration of APA convention, and and is completely scored by class members according to a co-created electronic rubric.  These particular comments address a group presentation "Racism is Ordinary" in EDLD 641 Critical Race Theory in Education

Elle, Theon, Hannah, Farhan, Monte, Dahsol
Your Classmate’s Comments:

I found the engagement activities to be really beneficial. I enjoyed participating in the conversation where I could. I felt that you had plenty of examples from the past and present. I was very impressed with the three different sources for definitions of racism is ordinary.

Thank you for reminding me of checking my privilege when it comes to driving and having those convos.
"By setting white as a determining factor [Naturalization Act], that is why we see race everywhere" WOAH! YES!
Suits and ties are a part of whiteness - yes!

Really good presentation, however, there was a lot of discussion within the group members together instead of having the audience discuss! I really liked all of their personal examples though! The Kahoot was a cool idea if time would have allowed for audience interaction! There were also no in-text citations either.

Great information and discussions. The examples and real like feel really opens eyes to where and how we see whiteness and continue to see whiteness as ordinary. Theon and his son not wanting to drive after his experience was heartbreaking! I really enjoyed it!  Great personal insights on the topic!

I really appreciated you all sharing your personal experiences. It helped put it in perceptive and see that it's still happening.
Engagement was good, and everyone participated amazingly. Thank you for speaking your truths, it added a powerful impact to your presentation!

I loved how Theon, Monte and Elle pulled in their own personal stories related to this tenet. (Theon giving the driving talk, Monte receiving the driving talk, and Elle acknowledging not knowing about the driving talk). Monte did an awesome job pushing us to explain our thinking/reasoning.

I do not catch the tied of race is ordinary to an educational issue. I appreciate all the visuals and their knowledge of race is ordinary.
I really liked the examples. There was a lot of text but it was helpful.
Awesome! I was intrigued by everything they said and felt engaged even though I did not actually talk myself.

The presentation had such a natural flow to it. it felt more like a conversation presentation than a formal presentation which made it more engaging and interesting. You guys also did a great job jumping in to add yours thoughts on the different slides. I really appreciated the personal experiences and tying them into your topic. Personal experiences are so meaningful The poll was a nice way to start the presentation.

Good job presenting the tenet, I liked that you included a lot of relevant and current personal stories from all members. I think that you could have done a better job of outlining the educational issue that tied into your tenet.

Great conversations! I enjoyed participating in discussion- Monte and Theon were REAL and authentic- thank you for just doing it and saying it. PollEv, Videos, etc were a good mix up. Sad we missed the Kahoot!  I loved the past and present examples that you used. It really helped show and demonstrate the tenet. I also really enjoyed your opening activity.

Wonderful job! I loved all the opportunities to participate in the conversation and it was very engaging. It would have been nice to see the rest of your presentation and do the activity, but over all it was great!  Well researched and very involved.

For a third year, we have collected participants' racial equity  - pre and post - self assessments.  This assessment tool was adapted from the Anti Defamation League's Personal Self Assessment of Anti-Bias Behavior. In every year that we've given this assessment, participants have demonstrated a shift toward more anti-biased thinking and actions.  We attribute this positive shift to the learning, experiences, and relationships that occur in the Institute.  Ultimately, this shift in teacher thinking and behavior will manifest itself in classrooms.
